Grammar school to add two more apprentices to its cohort

A renowned grammar school is expanding its apprenticeship scheme after its first apprentice proved to be a huge success.

Jessica Carr joined the Royal Latin School in Buckingham last January as a business administration apprentice, after completing A-levels at Bicester College.

The school is so pleased with her progress and the benefits the programme has brought that it now plans to take on two more apprentices this year, one as a science technician and the second, to fill an IT technician role.

Satisfaction guaranteed

School business manager Lorraine Hayhurst-France told the Advertiser and Review: “There is a great deal of satisfaction to be gained from watching a young person develop in the workplace.

“I would encourage other schools to think very seriously about offering apprenticeships.

“I think they will be surprised at how much not only the apprentice, but also the organisation as a whole benefits.”

Jessica added: “I have been delighted to find a placement that has allowed me to develop a range of skills. I have particularly enjoyed seeing the practical results of my work.”
