Liverpool’s new £20m hotel to offer 100 higher apprenticeships

Signature Living, a Liverpool-based hotel operator, is offering 100 young people the chance to gain higher apprenticeships within its newly-built hotel.

The Shankly hotel is a new £20m development named after former Liverpool FC manager and club icon Bill Shankly.

The hotel operator has signed a training deal with the City of Liverpool College to provide apprenticeships in events co-ordination, hospitality management, accountancy, graphic design, joinery and web design.

The majority of the apprenticeships will be based in the hotel, with it set to open sometime in August.

The scheme has been welcomed by Elaine Bowker, principal at the City of Liverpool College.

‘‘The new partnership with the Shankly Hotel will provide unique training and career opportunities for our students and is part of our long-term commitment to provide skills for the city’s booming visitor economy.’’

‘‘By partnering with employers like Signature Living and running our own learning companies… we can ensure students have the right skills to support growth in the visitor economy and also benefit from the jobs being created in the sector.’’

The Shankly Hotel will be hosting an apprenticeship open day for any interested students from 9.30am – 4.30pm on 22nd July, at 30 James Street in the city centre.

David Hughes managing director of Signature Living, added: ‘‘We are delighted to be creating new roles and opportunities for young people across the city.’’

‘‘Our partnership with the City of Liverpool College is vital in ensuring that we develop the best new talent and nurture them as the future of the business.’’

Merseyside has been thriving within the apprenticeship sector as of late.

Recently Apprentice Eye reported that Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral will play host to the country’s biggest graduation event for higher apprentices, with over 1,000 apprentices expected to attend.
