New Tech City scheme will link young people with digital businesses

A new campaign, Connecting Tech City, has been launched to give young people living in Hackney and Islington a chance to find work in London’s thriving digital community.

The campaign, backed by the Centre for London think tank, the Mayor of London and City University London,  will comprise of a web platform which will link young people, their parents, schools and colleges to digital businesses which are offering learning and employment opportunities.

Director of Centre for London, Ben Rogers, said: “If successful, Connecting Tech City will mark a step-change in relations between East London’s digital cluster and the broader local economy. We urge Londoners to help build the most socially inclusive tech cluster in the world.”

Gerard Grech, Chief Executive of TechCity UK said: “For the UK tech sector to grow, we need to invest more in developing local talent. East London’s cluster can lead the way, but we need to do more to connect businesses to schools and get local young people involved.”
