Students gain insight into employment

As part of an Apprenticeship Awareness Programme, students from Woodham Academy in Newton Aycliffe are finding out more about employment opportunities.

Last month, around 100 year 9 students attended a speed networking event during which six companies introduced their business ideas. Students then visited one of these firms to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities.

Pauline Hadwin, HR Manager at Finley Structures one of the firms involved, said:  “It’s good to involve schools in order to provide an understanding of working life practices and the opportunities that are available within the local area.”

Woodham’s head of year Vikki Fawcett said: “In order to provide a valuable alternative to college and university. We need to be taking learning out of the class room and into the real world.”
