Apprentice Diane Skillen, who works at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and is trained by Wirral Metropolitan College, has won the prestigious UK Life Science Skills Award.

Diane first completed a Clinical Laboratory Support Level 2 NVQ before moving on to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Health Pathology Support (at level 3).  Diane currently works as a Biomedical Support Worker. Her assessors say that that her level of work is similar to that of an experienced scientist, a reason why she was nominated for the award.

Principal at Wirral Met College, Sue Higginson, said: “Diane’s success is so well deserved and demonstrates how powerful apprenticeships are in developing individuals whilst contributing to the success of their employer.”
