Call for Equal Number of Apprenticeship Places as University Courses

Lord Adonis

Apprenticeships vs university courses

Lord Adonis has spoken out about how it is just as important to offer apprenticeships in the workplace to young people as it is to promote university places. “Our basic problem for the 50% that do not go to university is there’s nothing like university that acts as a magnet for them in terms of aspiration to get on or getting out of bed in the morning.”

Apprenticeships give young and inexperienced individuals a chance at professional employment, providing equal opportunities to young people from poorer families who are unable to enter into higher education, especially now due to the rise in tuition fees. Those who are employed on apprenticeship schemes therefore gain valuable experience which will stand them in good stead for their future careers, much like their degree educated peers.
