Potential tech trainees are being invited to apply for John Lewis’s IT degree-level apprenticeship programme, due to start in September.
The four-year programme will give eight youngsters, who have already completed A-level qualifications, the opportunity to train on the job at the John Lewis head office’s IT department. They will study towards a degree in digital and technology solutions with The Tech Partnership.
Learn on the job
Successful candidates will spend three days a week working at John Lewis HQ, and two days studying at Queen Mary University, London. They will be able to get experience in a number of different IT-based roles to allow them to develop a technical specialism.
On completion of the degree apprenticeship, students will get full-time jobs with the retail giant.
‘Kick-start’ to a career
Paul Coby, IT director at John Lewis, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to work with The Tech Partnership to offer talented young people the opportunity to kick-start a career in IT through our new degree apprenticeship.
“This programme is a great alternative to university and successful applicants will receive transferable workplace skills in addition to a degree education, and I hope that we will find some future leaders in IT via this scheme.”
