Students in Somerset have been learning about different routes to training and employment in a number of sectors, thanks to a programme of talks by guest speakers.
The business course pupils at Bridgwater College have had the benefit of presentations from representative from the likes of Great Western Railway (GWR) and Bristol-based event management and production company, Bright.
James Linley, customer information manager for GWR spoke about his career with the company, his job and what it involves, focusing on what GWR looks for in employees.
Co-founder of Bright, Alistair Paul, presented to students about his experience building up his own business with his partner, planning and managing large-scale events and conferences for a range of industries.
Learning for success
The talks provided an opportunity for Bridgwater students to gain insight into what it takes to be successful in a career route, whether it’s working for a major rail network or starting out as an entrepreneur.
Abbie Brogden, work place co-ordinator at the college, said: “The students rally enjoyed James’s presentation, as we don’t always have the opportunity to gain inside knowledge from an industry such as rail.
“Alistair spoke through the process of receiving notice of an event through the planning to the actual event day. He also offered students the chance to complete a work placement at Bright Events, something which is exclusive to our Level 3 business students.”
