KM Group chairman, Geraldine Allinson, said: "The fact the Duke of York came to support the Kick Start Kent campaign is a testament to how important it is to get more people into apprenticeships.
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, said: “Some of the feedback we have received from young people indicates that they would like to receive information about at an earlier stage in school so they can take more time to make choices and are ahead of the game when it comes to finding out about the qualifications, training and jobs available to them."
Speaking at a Berkeley Foundation and Mayor’s Fund for London Leadership briefing on youth employment, London’s deputy mayor for business and enterprise, Kit Malthouse said that SMEs are not doing their bit to help the NEET generation.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said: “I’m delighted that the Council has launched the UK’s first independent Apprenticeship Store which will have a really positive impact."
Councillor Nick McDonald, the city council's portfolio holder for jobs and growth, said: "The introduction of access points where support for applications is easily accessible will show more people that apprenticeships are a great route into their chosen career."
Following news that David Cameron plans to cut annual migration to less than 100,000, Will Davies, MD of aspect.co.uk has said that unemployed young British workers need to be given apprenticeship opportunities to prevent jobs being handed to new waves of eastern European migrants.
Research by FE Week has found that over 530 training providers under-delivered on their August 2012 16-18 apprenticeship allocations, by a total of £241.5m.
