The apprenticeship aims to boost the number of young people working in the sector

E-skills UK has launched cyber security apprenticeships across the IT, communications and defence sectors, it has been reported.

Only 7% of professionals in the information security sector are under 29 years old, so the new scheme hopes to increase this figure. Apprenticeships will be delivered by the National Skills Academy for IT and will be available later this year.

CEO of E-Skills UK, Karen Price, said: “I am delighted that E-Skills UK is working with a consortium of key employers to create the routes for young people to enter the exciting world of cyber security. These new apprenticeships will help tackle the skills shortage faced by this sector, including attracting more women, who are currently under-represented.”
