According to a new report from Dr Martin Allen and Professor Patrick Ainley from the University of Greenwich, the majority of apprenticeships are low-skilled and don’t offer a real chance of employment upon completion.

A spokeswoman said: “We have had a really successful year and the ten apprentices who joined us back in July last year are now very established and confident young individuals ready to take their next step into full-time employment.”

The council says that the initiative could create more than 170 jobs and over 40 apprenticeships for young people in the West Midlands.

Brady says: “According to new research from LifeSkills, created with Barclays, three quarters of 14- to 25-year-olds are inspired by their families about work and four in 10 look to their parents first and foremost for career advice.” So what can parents do to help their children?
