The number of applications outdid the number of apprenticeships available, with 11 people applying for each position. The government is therefore calling on more employers to hire apprentices.

General Assembly’s regional director Matt Cynamon said the curriculum has been designed with employers in mind. He said: “From our most recent long-form courses, we are seeing a very high success rate of students securing jobs at the end of study.”

There is still some confusion surrounding apprenticeship rights with different arrangements. Employers need to be clear on this to avoid expensive mistakes.

According to research from the National Union of Students, schools, colleges and universities are failing to provide careers advice about apprenticeships.

On Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September, nearly 100 social media experts and researchers from 25 countries will be attending a conference organised by the University of Westminster’s Centre for Social Media Research (CSMR).

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock has shown his support for Professions Week which runs from 21st to 27th October 2013. It aims to boost awareness among 14 to 19 year olds in the professions and the opportunities available to them after finishing school.
