The Barclays LifeSkills Youth Barometer has highlighted that just a quarter of young people between the ages of 14-25 were told about apprenticeships in school.

Schenker Limited CEO, Helgi Ingolfsson says: “When we talk about sustainability, for me it means the long term vision of the company, therefore, it is vital that we have a platform to encourage young people to get into logistics.”

A new apprenticeship hub has opened in Leeds which aims to give local businesses free and impartial advice about any issues related to apprenticeships.

During his recent appearance at Business, Innovation and Skills questions in the House of Commons, newly appointed Shadow Skills Minister Liam Bryne challenged Matthew Hancock over the 12% drop in 16 to 19 apprenticeships.

Pauline Tambling said: “The new system sounds good in theory but there are always challenges. In the short term I feel that our sector’s employers will be put off and specifically I think we’ll need to spell out how a tax-related scheme would work.”

Now in its second year, the ceremony aims to highlight the importance and value of apprenticeships to employers, learners and the economy.
