As part of a new initiative set up by e-skills UK, organisations including BT, IBM, Capgemini and Atos will offer cyber security apprenticeships with the aim of filling 100 positions by summer.
Figures from The Data Service have revealed that the number of IT apprenticeships has fallen 2.7%. In 2012/13 there were 25,920 apprenticeships in ICT, 710 less than in 2011/12.
Karen Price, CEO of e-skills UK, said: "For the UK to retain its innovative edge in this fast-moving field, we need to do more to bring new talent into the industry and continue to up-skill existing staff - that's exactly what the Cyber Academy aims to do.”
