UK digital communications company, EE, has announced that it will recruit 500 apprentices by 2015. The apprentices will be employed in the Customer and Retail teams for 15 months of training. One day every two weeks will be spent in college, working towards a qualification in Retail or Contact Centre Operations.
The scheme has already been trialed as part of its Customer team with a total of 101 apprentices being taken on in the past year. Out of that number, 25% were aged 16-17 and out of the total, 90% were aged less than 22. EE also has plans to launch a graduate scheme.
Chief Customer Officer of EE, Jackie O’Leary, says: “We recognise the importance of providing a platform for Britain’s young people to develop professionally, as well as contributing towards the local economy and community in the areas that we operate. With one mullion unemployed 16 to 24 year olds in the UK, big businesses should play a central role in provding employment opportunities and training up tomorrow’s talent.”
