Young people in the UK will get the chance to break into the television industry, after Sky revealed that it will be extending its apprenticeship scheme due to last year’s success and the encouraging feedback received from those who took part. There are 98 apprenticeships available; applications are now open, closing 10th March 2013. Training will be given to successful applicants, covering areas such as marketing, broadcast operations and creative services.
Sky’s Fast Forward programme, which has been running for three years, will also be taking on six additional apprentices. The schemes employs students fresh from A-Level’s in schools local to Sky’s headquarters in Osterley. Young people on the Fast Forward programme gain a one year, paid, full time contract with the company in various business areas.
Deborah Baker, Director for People at Sky, said: “We’re giving bright and hardworking school leavers the opportunity to get their foot in the door of the media industry. This is the most varied apprenticeship programme we have offered to date and we know that young people will bring enthusiasm and fresh ideas to Sky. As a business, we know that investing in youth and creating opportunities at a junior level is essential to our future growth. We look forward to welcoming the successful candidates in the summer.”
