Providing apprenticeship funding

Walsall Council has shown its support for apprenticeships by developing a programme “Walsall Works” which aims to improve employment opportunities in local businesses. Financial incentives of GBP3,000 to GBP6,000 will be offered to businesses of all sizes to bring apprentices on to their workforce. The council is targeting growth sectors, including creative and digital services, financial, professional and business services and logistics.

To be eligible for a grant, businesses should employ apprentices for at least 35 hours each week for a minimum period of 12 months. They should also pay the apprentice at least minimum wage. For employers who also qualify for the National Apprenticeship Service AGE grant, the financial incentive will be reduced by GBP1,5000.
