The AELP claims the proposals put forward to improve apprenticeships could add complexity and cost. It welcomed the success of apprenticeship schemes but warned against introducing significant changes too quickly.
Speaking at the AELP ‘Making a Difference with Employers’ conference recently, CEO Stewart Segal said that training providers’ success in working with employers is the USP which makes them well placed to handle the challenges now facing the FE and skills sector.
AELP chief executive Stewart Segal said: “We support the objectives for reforming apprenticeships, but evidence from the front line shows that the proposed solutions for directly funding employers are not supported by many employers, particularly SMEs."
CEO Stewart Segal said: “AELP is pleased that Ofsted has highlighted as good practice schools inviting local employers and training providers to come in and give presentations to pupils about apprenticeships and other vocational options."
It's GCSE results day on Thursday and school leavers are being directed towards the new traineeships programme which will prepare them for apprenticeship schemes or the world of work.
The Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) has welcomed the opportunity to consult its members and their employer customers on the future of apprenticeship funding.
Stewart Segal AELP Chief Executive-designate said: “Continuing cuts in budgets will inevitably put pressure on funding and eligibility. However the commitment to the Apprenticeship programme and Traineeships means that the limited budgets will be focused on where the investment can have most impact."
