New apprenticeship offers route into legal profession

St Albans-based law firm SA Law is launching a solicitor apprenticeship scheme in conjunction with City University London and CILEx Law School.

The initiative will blend full-time work with part-time study to provide candidates with the necessary experience and qualifications for a career in the legal profession.

Details of the scheme have been unveiled as National Apprenticeship Week continues.

Gill Garrett, SA Law’s director of finance and business support, said: “Shining a light on apprenticeships and all the benefits they offer is so important – increasingly, university is becoming an unviable and expensive option. Through an apprenticeship, our candidates will receive ‘on the job’ training and can achieve status as a fully trained solicitor at the end of the six year period.”
Jenny Pelling, Business Director at CILEx Law School, said: “We are delighted to announce this solicitor apprenticeship vacancy during National Apprenticeship Week.”

Angela Jackman, Senior Lecturer at the City Law School, said: “The partnership between City Law School and CILEx Law School is an excellent fit for the delivery of solicitor apprenticeships and we look forward to working with SA Law on this initiative.”

City Law School and CILEx Law School were the first institutions to announce solicitor apprenticeships, with the agreement they entered into with ITV in December 2015.

The SA Law apprenticeship will be offered to an A-Level candidate with a view to starting in September 2016.
