A career in the NHS on call for Blackpool apprentices

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is taking on a number of apprentices across all areas of the hospital, giving local people opportunities to embark on a career in the NHS.

Running in partnership with Blackpool and Fylde Colleges, Training 2000 and Estio Training, the new recruits are taking up roles in the finance, HR and IT departments, as well as clinical apprenticeships.

The two finance apprentices Jennie Aldred and Tom Higson will go on to complete Association of Accounting Technicians qualifications.

James Eaton, assistant divisional finance manager at the Trust, told the Blackpool Gazette: “Originally to get any role in finance you needed to be quite well qualified so this opens all sorts of possibilities for youngsters.”

Clinical workforce development adviser, Dawn Werra, added: “Apprenticeships provide routes into a variety of careers in the NHS and give an excellent training opportunity for people of all ages to earn while they learn as well as achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

“The scheme also allows the Trust to nurture its workforce of tomorrow by instilling the vision and values of the organisation at an early stage and ensuring that the philosophy of a caring and compassionate environment is adopted from day one.”
