How to bridge the 3-D skills gap

Young people

When independent education charity AQA surveyed the apprenticeship landscape they identified three skills gaps that would need to be bridged in order to provide employers with a ready pipeline of talent. Apprentices would need to be educated to a higher level of skills; that met the needs of employers in growth sectors; with technical and employability skills.

Recognising the desire for rigorous, credible and relevant technical and vocational qualifications, AQA has developed a five-point approach to plug this “3-D” skills gap. This plan is outlined in “Mind the Gap”, a new whitepaper.

According to AQA: “To us, quite simply, this was the right thing to do for our young people and for those businesses crying out for a job-ready workforce.”

From involving employers to addressing the skills gap at a local level, the points made in “Mind the Gap” are a compelling argument for this new approach.
