Close Brothers and Sheffield University hosting apprentice event for SMEs

Banking group Close Brothers, the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre and the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) are hosting an event to help local SMEs take on new apprentices.

The event, taking place at the Training Centre’s headquarters on Wednesday 10th of June, currently has registration open for firms in the Sheffield area; SMEs will be told how they can secure fully funded apprenticeships and have half the wages subsidised.

Close Brothers is running its SME Apprentice programme, whereby the bank will fund half of the apprentice’s wages for the first year and a quarter in the second year for 20 companies.

The training costs at the Sheffield AMRC Training Centre are also covered under the scheme, in addition it offers additional support with recruitment and mentoring.

Companies in attendance will learn how future plans for SME apprentice funding will affect them and impact on whether they can employ apprentices and myth-bust concerns surrounding costs and bureaucracy.

Speakers will include representatives from local firms who have already benefited from Close Brothers’ scheme and Russell Fox, who was named ‘Made in Sheffield Apprentice of the Year’ and the Training Centre’s ‘Boeing Apprentice of the Year’.
