Last month the National School of Apprenticeships announced the launch of the ‘One by 2020’ campaign, which aims to have every school in England employ at least one apprentice by the year 2020.
In the past fortnight, over 300 schools have signed up to the scheme. In total, over 3,000 schools across the UK are now part of the campaign.
‘‘The initial success of the campaign to date has demonstrated to us that there is a need for apprenticeships in schools across the nation.
“We are confident that every school in England can benefit from joining the programme, so we are determined to keep the message running until every school employs at least one apprentice,’’ commented Neil Gamewell, Director of NSA.
National School Apprenticeships has been shortlisted in the Skills for Business Awards 2015 in the “Learning Provider of the Year” category.
There are currently around 8.2 million pupils attending 24,372 schools in England (including nursery schools, state-funded primary schools, state-funded secondary schools, special schools, pupil referral units and independent schools.)
The NSA is continuing to campaign for every school to join the programme. The association is holding two free webinars every week for schools who want to know more about the scheme.
The webinars will explain the types of apprenticeships available, accessible funding and how the NSA can help schools with the recruitment process. There will also be a Q&A session included in the webinars if the schools have any more queries about the project.
