National School Apprenticeships (NSA) has launched a new campaign ‘One by 2020,’ which encourages every school in England to employ at least one apprentice by the year 2020.

Over 3000 schools are already participating by hiring at least one apprentice; remaining schools are being called upon to join the apprenticeship movement no later than June 2015, in order to target school leavers in July.

Neil Gamewell, Director of NSA said: “With over 20,000 schools in England there is a huge opportunity to create a thriving job market for young people. We hope that our current success can be continued and even surpassed in the coming years as more and more schools take advantage of the benefits that come with hiring an apprentice in one of the many job roles available.”

With a rapidly growing number of advocates for the apprenticeship scheme, Caz Brasenell, Deputy Head of Huntingtree Primary School, outlined how an apprenticeship has benefited her school; “Our apprentice is outstanding… We are very pleased with the scheme. Our apprentice is instrumental in providing teachers with PPA (Preparation, Planning and Assessment) cover.”
