Employers should hire older apprentices, says Ros Altmann

Ros Altman, the government’s older workers champion, has said that whilst she understands the drive to combat youth unemployment and provide subsidised apprentices to get young people into work, more needs to be done to incentivise employers to train and retain older people.

Ros Altmann said: “The over-50s are the group most likely to be unemployed long term and need urgent help to get back to work.  Just a one-year delay in average retirement age can add one per cent to economic growth and will increase national spending.”
