Top 5 tips for a successful job hunt

It’s the bane of many unemployed young people’s lives; how do you get a job if you don’t have experience, and how to do get experience if you don’t have a job?

If you think outside the box you can work around this tricky catch 22, and impress potential employers in other ways.

Check out these five top tips:

  1. If you’re going for an apprenticeship scheme at a big company, they usually advertise during a certain time of year. Pay attention and don’t miss the opportunity.
  2. If you like the look of a company but they aren’t recruiting, why not be proactive and approach the employer yourself? If they like the sound of you, they might create a position for you.
  3. Get a hobby! Employers aren’t just looking for skills and qualifications; they like to see you are interesting and get involved with activities you are passionate about.
  4. Volunteer! Any type of volunteering looks great on your CV. Jobs related to the field you want to work in will be particularly useful.
  5. When applying for jobs, create targeting applications. For each new application, take time to identify the specific skills required and prove your relevant strengths.
