Apprenticeships: a great approach to entry-level recruitment (Case study)

London-based IT and communications provider NETconnection Systems teamed with Just IT to find a new approach to entry-level recruitment.

The partnership has helped a young IT enthusiast to kick-start his career. John Cook, eager to choose work-based learning over university, was offered an IT Support & Networking apprenticeship at the company after handing in his CV.

Assisting on the support desk and during external site visits, John very quickly fitted into the team at NETconnection, showing the ability to work independently on the projects assigned to him despite the common worry about the level of supervision required on the part of employers.

After completing his apprenticeship, John was offered a permanent position at NETconnection.

Clive Bandoo, NETconnection’s Service Delivery Manager, said:  “It was a great opportunity for us to develop an employee with marketable skills. It gives fantastic opportunities to young people who are eager for a good start in a great industry.”
