LEP launches campaign to raise awareness of apprenticeship grants

The Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has launched a new 100 day campaign to raise awareness of the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) which is available to businesses hiring young apprentices.

2,000 grants of £1,500 are available to employers who employ less than 1,000 staff and haven’t had an apprentice for the past year. The campaign is expected to generate pledges from around 1,000 businesses.

Alan Volkaerts, LEP board director with responsibility for employment and skills and manufacturing director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “We are all aware of the challenges we face in terms of youth unemployment at the moment and we are always looking for ways to tackle this. AGE grants are an excellent way of helping employers to take on young people, develop their workforce and grow their business. It can take several months from the start of the process before the funds become available, so it is well worth employers who are planning ahead for 2014 to start thinking about the opportunities now.”
