East Hants Council launches new scheme to promote apprenticeships

East Hampshire District Council, in partnership with Business East Hants, has introduced a new £150,000 ‘Get East Hants Working’ scheme to promote apprenticeships in the area.

The money will be used to support the businesses who choose to take on young workers, by topping up wages and covering the cost of travel of young people who embark on apprenticeship schemes.

Councillor Ferris Cowper, Leader of EHDC, commented: “We have to focus on what we can do to give people a kick-start in life and apprenticeships fit the bill.

“The best deal you can strike is the mutually beneficial deal – and this scheme benefits young people, who get the chance to show what they can do, and employers, who get someone they can mould and train with the skills you need for their business.

“In the current economic climate apprenticeship schemes are crucial for the future of East Hants.”
