Holding apprenticeship event in April

Surrey County Council is holding an event, ‘Developing Skills for Surrey,’ in support of its effort to create 500 apprenticeships in the next year. Many local businesses are expected to attend an event to help young people’s chances of getting on the career ladder.

The free event will be held on Thursday 18th April at Dorking Halls. It comes just before the launch of the Supply2Surrey website planned for May, which aims to match employers with potential apprentices and will provide a resource for vacancies in the area.

Employers are invited to attend who are planning on hiring apprentices or offering trial placements. 40 businesses have already signed up for the event, where they will have the chance to talk to college representatives and training providers, gain valuable advice and hear from other employers about the business benefits of hiring apprentices.

Surrey County Council’s head of procurement and commissioning, Laura Langstaff, said: “Apprenticeships provide young people with skills they need, give businesses the workforce they require and help the economy grow. This event is a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes to see the direct benefits of hiring apprentices and more than 40 have already signed up. I’d urge others looking to develop young talent to do the same.”
