Apprenticeships work for me, says Lincolnshire accountant

Accounting service calls for other businesses to get on board

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) have joined with West Lindsey District Council to support the “Apprenticeships Work 4 You” campaign local to the area. 50 apprenticeship positions are hoped to be secured, to expand businesses and help young people on to the career ladder.

An accounting firm in West Lindsey, ABC Accounting Services, has provided seven young people with apprenticeships in the course of five years. The director, Belinda Darley, has been very supportive of the apprenticeship scheme; three of her current qualified accountants started out in apprenticeship positions, and another three are in the middle of the study programme. Darley’s achievement is hoped to inspire other employers in the area to think about the benefits it could bring to their business.

As Darley’s company expands she is looking to hire a new apprentice in the New Year: “Taking on apprentices has absolutely benefited our business. They are able to apply the ideas and theory they’ve learned with fantastic results. And we have found the work ethic of the apprentices to be great – they have proven themselves to be incredibly hard-working, focused and full of ambition. I’m really looking forward to taking on my next apprentice and am delighted to support West Lindsey’s campaign.”
